Winner: 'Some people feel the rain, others just get wet' by @photographerasaf (Bangladesh)
Location: Akkelpur, Joypurhat, Bangladesh
It was a sunny day, and I had planned to go take some photos. I spotted this boy plucking flowers, and just a few moments later the rain started to pour down. He had the biggest and purest smile on his face and didn't seem to be bothered at all. To me, happiness is one of the outcomes of proper faith. Faith brings you confidence, and confidence gives you energy. And when you feel the energy, you smile unconsciously.

'Old steam locomotive in the woods' by @borsch (Russia)
My drone caught this steam locomotive, built in the 1940s, approaching a railway station.
'Oh deer' by @maxbuiting (Netherlands)
'Sin escapatoria' by @aibanez (Spain)

Photography allows you to freeze time and enjoy the moment.

Location: Cantabria, Spain

'Green sky' by @superiaia (Italy)
Location: Arjeplog frozen lake, Sweden
One of the most incredible phenomenon you can see on the planet: the northern lights. It was a really cold night with -32 Celsius degrees! Trust me: at that temperature also the blood starts to freeze! I wanted to capture the sinuous movement of the green light beams and their reflection on the not-yet-frozen lake. It's difficult to describe the emotions when observing this amazing show: you can feel the same fear, the same impotence, the same emotion that our ancestors certainly felt, although the physics behind them were not yet known. You can fully understand all the legends that were written many years ago about this wonderful phenomenon. I love this photo because every time I look at it, I can go back to that precise moment when amazement has taken over everything else.
'Green road' by @carlesalonsophotography (Spain)
Location: South India
It was an amazing road trip surrounded by contrasting green landscapes.
'Military cemetery' by @knarfphoto (Belgium)
Location: Ossuary of Douaumont, Fleury-devant-Douaumont, France
The battle of Verdun was one of the bloodiest battles that occurred during WW1: a total of 263.000 soldiers lost their lives there. With its well-organized graves and lavish green patches, the cemetery stands in big contrast to the cruel battle. Through my photo, I want to convey respect, dignity, but also the rejection of violence and war.
'Green frog' by @anskar (Germany)
Location: Münster, Germany
I wanted to get a special perspective for this photo. My camera got way too close to the water, but I'm delighted with the final result!
'Ninja in town' by @panvelvet (Russia)
Location: Shanghai, China
'Dangerously beautiful green viper' by @jovanneamolat (Philippines)
Location: Singapore Zoo
I was amazed when I saw the green viper in its glass enclosure, because it looked like it was posing for all the visitors. I was actually a bit scared while taking the shot, because of how close I was to the snake: it felt like we were almost touching each other's faces. Even though the snake is one of the most feared animals, we should never forget that it is still one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet.
'The real heroes' by @muhammadridwan06 (Indonesia)
'Natural pool' by @ghislainfave (France)
Location: Jalapão State Park, Brazil
The Fervedouros of Jalapão are unique natural springs located in a quite arid area: they are like an oasis in the desert. The water pressure is very high, forming a lot of bubbles that make you float and prevent you from sinking. Only a drone shot could capture the ethereal feeling of floating in those amazing natural jacuzzis.
'Prambanan' by @rwicaksa (Indonesia)
Location: Prambanan temple, Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Prambanan is the biggest Hindu temple in Indonesia, as well as one of the most beautiful temples in Southeast Asia.
'From above' by @mikhail_derevyanov
Location: Moscow, Russia
'Green all-around' by @kateomely (Russia)
Location: Moscow, Russia
This photo was taken right after we got out of the quarantine. My son was just so happy to run, jump, and play in the sun! He was gently jumping over the small yellow flowers in the grass to avoid stepping on them. With this picture, I want to show the beauty of the green world around us, and the happiness of a carefree childhood!
'Sunlight painting the mountains' by @santicozar (UK)
'Standing on the edge' by @jprphotos (UK)
Location: Tumpak Sewu, East Java, Indonesia
We went to east Java on a spur of the moment thing: we booked our tickets, and the next morning we were on the plane! We didn't really know what to expect, but East Java is the most incredible place I've ever been and this is the most impressive waterfall I've ever seen. It stretches all around you and is simply massive. Puts how small you truly are compared to nature into perspective!
'Dirty road through the green orchards' by @drummer_vn (Ukraine)
Location: Vinnytsia, Ukraine
I woke up at 5 am to catch this aerial shot of the green apple orchards in my village.
'Man in melons!' by @sakter (Bangladesh)
Location: Burigaga river, Dhaka, Bangladesh
During the watermelon season, the wholesale market gathers vendors from all over the country. They tend to transport their merchandise by boat, just like the vendor in this photo. The all-green scene really caught my eyes!
'Bucolic' by @e.stis (Italy)
Location: Val di Funes, South Tyrol, Italy
I was on a road trip through the Italian Dolomites. On that morning, I woke up before sunrise to get to the location I had planned. While driving, I was looking through the side window and suddenly saw this beautiful, soft, warm light coming from behind the mountains. I stopped immediately and got out of the car with my camera. I took a few steps and found the perfect spot: the woods surrounding three small houses, some sheeps grazing the grass, and that beautiful light that made every other color look brighter. This photo is proof that you should always enjoy the journey and not simply think of your destination. If I hadn't paid attention to my surroundings while on the road I would have missed this beautiful moment. This is the kind of view I wish I could wake up to every morning. It made me feel at peace with the world, and hopefully, others will feel the same looking at this photo.
'Nature around the harbor' by @emxpi (France)
Location: Loire-Atlantique, France
I was flying my drone to photograph some boats on the river, and I didn't expect to find so many of them parked in this harbor surrounded by nature.
'Shades of green, little hut by the lake' by @seplb (Austria)
Location: Lake Plansee, Tirol, Austria
I was on a road trip through the western parts of Austria, together with some friends. When we passed by this boathouse I instantly had this minimal shot in mind and tried to take it. It started to rain but this did not stop us from getting out of the gar and trying our luck!
'Newborn' by @el_one (Indonesia)
Location: Pekanbaru hospital, Riau, Indonesia
Here are my wife and daughter, who was born in the emergency room of the hospital. The hospital was so busy that night that my wife gave birth without the assistance of a doctor, but with the precious help of a fantastic team of midwives.
'Skógafoss' by @joelfriend (UK)
Location: Skógafoss, Iceland
The golden light we got for this morning sunrise was crazy. I couldn't have wished for any better weather on my 10-day road trip around the land of fire and ice!
'Football in the green forest' by @artempikalov (Russia)
Location: Meshchersky Park, Moscow, Russia
This place is unique in its beauty. With this photo, I tried to convey the scale of a dense green forest and, of course, the hidden football field surrounded by the majestic trees.
'Dragon’s claw' by @joncleave (UK)
Location: Wales, UK
Legend has it that the hillside scars were caused by the Welsh dragon's claws. If you look very closely, you can see little white specs: these are sheep. It gives you some context of how small we really are in this world!
'Urban Nature' by @leemumford8 (Hong Kong)
The incredible urban architecture of Singapore combines urban development with nature to perfection.
@leemumford8 (Hong Kong)
'Cabin love' by @sjoerdbracke (Netherlands)
Location: Alpe Di Siusi, Dolomites, Italy
Me and my girlfriend woke up in the early morning to go to Alpe Di Siusi for sunrise. It's located on a plateau in the mountains and known for the beautiful cabins located on this hills kinda landscape. To me, this place was all about peacefulness. Cars aren't allowed if you're not living there, so this makes the place even more peaceful and quiet! No one was around and when the sun was rising, the scenery started to be more and more beautiful.
'Morning lake dip' by @cannonmatt (UK)
Location: Eibsee, Germany
My friend Kieran was taking a "refreshing" morning dip. I wanted to capture the stillness and quiet of lake Eibsee at Sunrise.
'Owlet' by @mits4772 (India)
Location: Surat, Gujarat, India
'Happy kid' by @tomdewaart (Netherlands)
Location: Sri Lanka
We stumbled upon this family as we were looking for a nearby temple. We were riding our scooters through these little villages. As we stopped to ask our way, the father of the family grabbed his scooter to show us around and asked us to come to get some food at his place later. Such generous and hospitable people; they had so little but still shared it all. As I travel a lot, I meet lots of people. Usually, I give adults some money for a portrait. However, with kids, I like to give them balloons. It gives them joy and also doesn’t teach them bad habits. For me seeing, those kids playing with so much joy from something that is so insignificant gives me a good feeling.
'I see you' by @giza_1 (Kosovo)
Location: Durres, Albania
In this photo, I had covered my nephew's face with a green leaf. We wanted to show some creative ideas about close-up portrait photos during these pandemic days.
'Bali's greens' by @janreyem (Australia)
Location: Ubud, Indonesia
Take me back to Bali! Fleeting moments of light through the treetops made this place so magical.
'On the road' by @touhid_biplob (Bangladesh)
Location: Bogura, Bangladesh
There is a funny behind-the-scenes story about this photo of this father and son heading to the village. On that day, I was wearing a red dress and an infuriated cow got mad seeing me. It chased me for more than fifteen minutes!
'Reincarnation' by @fonats (Ukraine)
Location: Kiev, Ukraine
Here's my oldest song Yegor. He asked his little brother Demyan to paint his face like a lizard so we could participate in the #Green2020 contest. When we began to wash off the paint, it turned out that the shelf life of the gouache had passed and it was difficult to wash it off. My son had to walk for two days with a green tint!
'Red-Eyed Tree Frog' by @bachir01 (USA)
Location: Arenal National Park, Costa Rica
I came across this scene while hiking through the Arenal National Park in Costa Rica. The rainforest is full of diverse life and many surprises. Typically, the Red-Eyed tree frogs are sleeping during the day and very active at night. However, this little cutie was very much awake, energetic, and playful in the late afternoon when I came across this unexpected scene. I’ve never seen a Red-Eyed tree frog before, so for me, it was an amazing experience. For a moment, we were both curious about exploring each other existence and it was comfortable enough to peek through the leaves for a closer look. Moments like these enhance and expand our curiosity to explore the natural wonder that surrounds us.
'Luminous Souls' by @thedallasexperience (Ghana)
Location: Takoradi, Ghana
I wanted to tell the story of being at ease with your own skin. My model has a season skin disorder which makes her cancel the shootings that occur when the symptoms show up. But this time around, we defied the regular and told a true story - since then she has felt really good about herself.
'Sekumpul' by @blakehobson (Australia)
Location: Sekumpul waterfall, Bali, Indonesia
The majestic Sekumpul waterfall is surrounded by amazing lush foliage. As there were a lot of people at the base of the waterfall, I wandered off from the crowds and found a beautiful frame that was showing Mother Nature in its most beautiful raw state.
'Operating theatre' by @drozzan (Indonesia)
Location: Tangerang, Indonesia
Here's my team: two Paramedics and one Anesthesiologist (myself!) preparing the incision for an emergency caesarian section. I wanted to portray the dedication of the medical staff to save the distressed mother and baby in the middle of the night. Among the lack of sleep and stress, it is our duty to always give our best.
'Will and hope' by @kevinochieng (Kenya)
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
I caught my model praying at the end of our photoshoot session. Prayers can give us hope and help us go through these hard times.
'Green fields at sunset' by @jassensf (USA)
Location: Rio Vista, California
I took this photo of a wind turbine while flying my plane at sunset.
'Nature's greatness in all of its glory' by @jordisark (Spain)
2020 is definitely not my best year and probably not yours either, but it may be the perfect time to start asking ourselves questions about the way we live, how we treat each other, and where we are going...
'Fishing' by @alexcao (Vietnam)
Location: Sa Huynh, Quang Ngai, Vietnam
I took this picture in the early morning of the first day of spring in Sa Huynh, which is famous for its fishing industry. At this time, the water was very clear and the boat was collecting nets that were full of anchovies.
'Sirajgonj' by @sharwarapo (Bangladesh)
Location: Sirajgonj, Bangladesh
This picture was taken from a bridge crossing the Bangali river. In January, one of the most beautiful natural show happens in this place: lots of migratory birds, just like the ducks pictured here, come from the mountainous regions to rest. Lots of people come here to enjoy the show and enjoy the beauty of nature in silence.
'Hope of green' by @pranab_basak (India)
Location: West Bengal, India
You can hear their laughter just by looking at the photo.
'Rice fields' by @michelle.wandering (Netherlands)
Location: Tegalalang Rice Terraces, Indonesia
I can't get enough of nature. These terraces were obviously built by man, but because they are so green, it still feels like nature. Nature is something different, it gives people peace of mind and almost everyone likes to be surrounded by it. These terraces are normally packed with tourists. If you go there on bright daylight, you won't find a spot to photograph without anyone in the background. However, if you go there for the sunrise you will be pleased with what you see. Fun fact: I've been there a couple of times and if you go early, you wake the street dogs up that are living in the area and they will join you the whole walking route! Take some healthy dog treats with you and you will meet new best friends.
